“An equal world is an enabled world.”
#EACHFOREQUAL
With this year’s International Women’s Day theme #EACHFOREQUAL, I want to know what it means to you.
As a mother of 2 girls, a sister from a family of 4 women, and an aunty to 5 nieces, it means a better more stabilised world for their future. It means that when they decide to head out into the world on their own journeys, They are afforded the same pay, rights, leadership roles and inclusive work places. It also means we have a long way to go. As I’m reading up and researching for this blog post, I see that the Canadian government has in place all of their laws protecting women’s rights… But being in the real world, i don’t see a lot of it being exercised.
FAMILY IS EVERYTHING
But i’m not going to be a Debbie Downer and write about all the awful stuff happening to women today. I’m going to write about what I am doing to make sure I pave the way for my girls. Because it starts with you. It starts with your knowledge, education and perseverance. Because kids emulate what you do.
My parents immigrated to this wonderful country in the late 70’s to give us a better chance at life. I have the privilege to raise my kids in a country with no war and am grateful to have food on our table. I am also grateful for having found a partner/ husband that knows the importance of raising up our kids (2 girls and a boy) to be who they are meant to be. We are also blessed to be a part of a community of people that take care of each other and treat the kids with mutual respect and love. THIS! This is truly important for our children, girls and boys, to have as they grow up to find themselves in a world that sometimes is dark: #EACHFOREQUAL
FIND YOUR TRIBE
As a woman entrepreneur, I’ve had the privilege of meeting and working with so many wonderful people. They are blazing the way for our younger generation, for more equal opportunities and better life choices. This past weekend, I had the privilege of attending a private event. I met so many of these beautiful women making a change in the community!
